The Irishman – Packaging & Labels

Established in 1999 by Bernard and Rosemary Walsh and based in Carlow, Walsh Whiskey is a leading producer of a portfolio of premium and super-premium, triple-distilled, craft Irish whiskeys under the Writers’ Tears and The Irishman brands.

Demand for Writers’ Tears and The Irishman whiskeys exceeds supply in the 50 countries they are distributed in. Our job was to create packaging, labels and advertising to reflect the high quality of these brands. As per the original packaging design, gold foils, copper foils, clear foil, embossing and de-bossing finishes were used.

For the print advertising campaign we used beautiful mood shots of the products to ensure they take centre stage. The additional text is kept to a minimum so the overall look conveys the luxury of the brand. The advert design can be adapted to different sizes and formats while still retaining the desired look.

We’ve had the pleasure of working on several projects for Walsh Whiskey, especially with their limited edition releases. One example is The Irishman Founder’s Reserve Caribbean Cask Finish, with 12 casks and about 380 bottles per cask. As a collector’s item we ensure the label and packaging included exquisite print finishes to give this beautiful Irish whiskey a premium feel.

A new creation, The Irishman Florio Marsala cask finish whiskey, began in 2015 when Bernard Walsh went to the Florio winery in Sicily. Bernard selected 10 hogshead wine casks to bring to Ireland for finishing this signature whiskey, The Irishman Founder’s Reserve. The packaging design for this limited edition Irish whiskey followed on from the original packaging to ensure consistency. The Florio red wine inspired the colour palette, and we paired red text with a cream background and copper foil to highlight the products’s exclusivity. The release is limited to just 2,970 individually numbered bottles. You can find this whiskey and its luxury packaging for sale in Ireland, Italy, France, Holland, Switzerland and Germany.

Please note: The original Irishman logo and packaging design was created by another design agency in 2013. Since then, AKGraphics has followed this original guideline to create additional packaging and marketing material.

Since 2012, Walsh Whiskey have been creating a limited edition wooden gift box for their cask strength 53% whiskey: Writer’s Tears. Every year since, we have been working with Walsh Whiskey to update and create unique packaging designs for their Irish whiskeys.
